Darija Žmak Kunić

Darija Žmak Kunić (b. 1978, Rijeka) is a multimedia artist who mainly works in the field of artistic objects  – installation and video installation, as well as artistic practice with sound experiments, drawings, sculpture/sculpting and performance. The author received the official status of an artist from 2010 until 2017 when she was hired on Academy of  Applied Arts in Rijeka.

She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University in Zagreb (BFA, 2003) where she managed to stay, work and acquire various professional experience in art production, organization and curating exhibitions, mentoring children, students and adults (HDLU Zagreb, SC Gallery, School for art education, creativity and design Studio Tanay,..).

In 2008 the artist graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Ljubljana, receiving  the title Master of Arts (MA).

Since 2000 the artist continuously exhibits on various solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. Her artistic practice also consists of participation in numerous juried and conceptual group exhibitions, producing site-specific works and group actions.

From 2005 she lives and works  in Opatija (Croatia), working as an assistant professor at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka.

In 2009, the artist participated as a Croatian representative in the area of visual Arts with the work Sleepwalkers on the 14th Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean in Skopje.

Besides artistic expression, work and creation, her activity is dedicated to cultural animation and involvement of local community and different audience into interactive art engagement that deal with community, trends and art concepts. The artist launched two children’s cultural art festivals: Volos – an art children’s festival and Moho – an entertainment & science festival for children that are continuously held from 2013. Both Volos and Moho festivals are led by the artist as program and art director.

Married. Mother of two. Lives and works in Volosko.
