Leisure & Play

Overworked and underpaid, overqualified and underemployed, many of us live a dire life. How did we end up here? And how do we escape this crisis ordinariness? It seems that in this dreadful and grueling work we have lost our curiosity, our play drive along the way: We come up with the same questions, ideas and answers every day, but everything seems to get worse. To pick up ideas of educator Maria Montessori and anarchist writer Bob Black: Maybe we should stop working and start playing! Or as Friedrich Schiller puts it: „Man only plays when he is in the fullest sense of the word a human being, and he is only fully a human being when he plays“.

In his talk, Florian Model will present his work he produced during his Goethe-Institut residency in Rijeka, using artificial intelligence and experimenting with autonomous agents, to offer a glimpse into alternative scenarios.

The project is presented under an artist-in-residence program which is part of „GenerationA=Algorithmus“ project by Goethe-Institut.
