Dr. Sc. Ana Peraica presents the translation of the book Culture of the Selfie, originally published by the Institute of Network Cultures (Amsterdam 2017) and translated into Croatian by Ognjen Strpić (Zagreb 2023) for Jesenski i Turk. Tomislav Čop and Dijana Protić will take part in the presentation of the book Selfie Culture with the author.

Abstract
Selfie Culture is an in-depth art-historical review of self-portraiture, conducted through a range of disciplines: visual studies, narratology, media studies, psychotherapy, and political theory. The book brings information from several areas and places them on the timeline of the history of works of art; the focal point of the author's attention is the spaciousness of the self-portrait, where the person being portrayed shares the space with the viewer. What information is missing when it comes to a transparent relationship with yourself, and what kind of world appears behind each selfie? As the "world behind our backs" gradually occupies an ever-increasing place in the field of vision, the book questions the possibility of the selfie to master reality, that is, to at least to some extent mediate between reality and the self.
The book Culture of the Selfie, originally presented at the Fear and Loathing of the Online Self Conference (John Cabot University and Roma Tre 2017), is used as a textbook in a whole range of visual culture courses (University of Stirling, University of Leeds, Hebrew University of Jerusalem , Bilkent University, University of Essen, University of Krakow, etc.). It is among the first books to cover this area of visual studies. It has been reviewed in important editions of media art; Geert Lovink Sad by design (Pluto Press, 2020), Routledge Companion to Mobile Media (Routledge, 2020), D.D. Murayova's Visual Culture Approaches to the Selfie (Routledge, 2021), Gabriella Giannachino's Technologies of the Self-Portrait (Routledge, 2023), and about sixty other books and articles. dr. sc. Ana Peraica graduated in art history and philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zagreb. She completed her art theory studies at the Jan Van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht in 2001 and enrolled in doctoral studies at the Amsterdam School of Cultural Analysis, Theory and Interpretation of the University of Amsterdam. In 2010, she defended her doctoral dissertation at the inter-university study program Philosophy and Modernity at the University of Rijeka. She is the author of several books: The Age of Total Images (Institute of Network Cultures, Amsterdam, 2019), Photography as Evidence (Multimedia Institute, Zagreb, 2018), Culture of the Selfie (Institute of Network Cultures, 2017). Her chapters are included in anthologies published by MIT Press, Routledge, Palgrave Macmillan, Springer, Blackwell, Bloomsbury, Intellect books, and in encyclopedias published by Sage, and her scientific articles are published by the magazines Leonardo, Afterimage, Photographies, Philosophy of Photography, Art Documentation and others. He is a book reviewer for MIT Press's Leonardo Reviews. In addition to scientific articles, she has published series of articles for the journals Springerin, Membrana and others. She is a visiting professor at the Danube University in Austria, and recently she was a visiting member of the department of the Central European University CEU in Budapest.
She has curated a number of online and offline exhibitions based on research projects, such as #whataboutyourselfie, Victims Symptom, Hardware-software-nowhere, Machine_philosopher, and offline exhibitions of media art as Women at the Crossroads of Ideologies, as well as retrospective jubilee events such as the 46th Zagreb Salon - Manuscripts of the New era.
