Symposium  at the VIP Salon of the University of Rijeka UNIRI  and Full dome screenings at the Astronomy Center Rijeka at 13 October.

Round table at the Academy of Applied Arts 14th October..

With the emergence of the pandemic caused by the virus, many processes related to the development and use of digital technology have become visible and widely applicable in practice. In these circumstances, the question arises about the importance of ethics in digital technology, and the relationship between ethics and aesthetics in postdigital art. Is it something that is aesthetically and visually pleasingly made to respect certain ethical norms as well. Therefore, International exhibition and screenings with variety of media art installations,  symposium and discussions with present artists and theoreticians will seek to explore what it means to ethically approach the work of art, and how this is reflected in relation to aesthetics in postdigital art as significant changes in the wider social context.

Glowing Globe is an event that will be held the fourth time. The program is innovative and educational dealing with research and understanding of the terms and phenomena of postdigital culture, which is especially relevant in contemporary art and society.

ABOUT

Media art long time has been understood as video and interactive art. Over the last 20 years, media art has expanded by various digital technologies. Digital coding as a process has taken over important segments of contemporary art. In recent years, even more: artificial intelligence programs, machine learning, computer games, virtual and augmented reality have become an expressive tool of many artists and art collectives. At a time when the whole world is ‘shining’ from extreme problems such as viruses, environmental disasters, wars and earthquakes of dystopian anxiety and various forms of alienation are also visible in art.

For the third year in a row, the Glowing Globe event is entitled Artificial Art Alienated, and aims to present to the public different perspectives on media and digital art. The state of alienation in the digital world as a topic has been approached by various domestic and international artists, art collectives and theorists. With an exhibition at the Kortil Gallery, symposium at the University of Rijeka and performance and screenings at the Astronomy Centre, participants will transdisciplinary present topics at the intersection of digital technologies and the humanities, artificial intelligence, ethics and ecology.

Glowing Globe, Science-Fiction-Art, Rijeka 2019

Inventions of technology inspire many artists to generate their visions that reflects anxiety, pointing to critical thinking and concern of the dangers of global changes. Through the various collaborations with scientists and scientific institutions, art works that have been created are gaining ever greater public interest. It is therefore necessary to redefine the positions of the latest media art and to critically discuss the issues and impacts of new technologies for the future and the development of the society in general.

The program is devoted to new-media art with an emphasis on virtual and augmentative reality.
